Mthatha Backpackers

Mthatha Backpackers is situated in the centre of the Wild Coast. It is also the only backpackers in South Africa's only African city, Mthatha. Formally known as the capital of the Transkei, the city was then named Umtata. It is also famous as the home town of ex- president Nelson Mandela.
We are in a safe area away from the noises of the city but close enough to enjoy all that Mthatha has to offer on foot or with our shuttle.
Mthatha Backpackers is located 5km from the City Centre and close to shops and restaurants.

We offer various types of accommodation for every taste: private double ensuite, dorms, or safari-tent dorms. All linen are provided.

Facilities
Mthatha Backpackers has excellent backpacker hostel facilities and is fully serviced till 16:30 daily. There is a self-catering kitchen, or we provide meals on request. We also feature a communal lounge with full satellite television on a big screen TV, perfect for movies and updates on sport events. Laundry services are available on request.

We have a small swimming pool with an enclosed lapa area in the back garden. There you can enjoy a few drinks with fellow travelers and play pool or darts.
For self-drivers we offer safe parking. Travellers who arrive by bus we will pick up from the Shell Ultra City free of charge. We can also organise bag storage while you visit the more remote backpackers in the area.
